Video conversion
We try to make Encode to be as easy to use as possible. Because of this, we don't present you with many conversion options. Instead, we've chosen a set of optimal options for the video format you select.
If you just want to convert your video and are happy to leave the geeky bits to us, see the pricing (free video conversion for up to a minute!) or head onwards to video upload & conversion page. If you want to know the dirty details, read on.
Conversion options
We support virtually all input video codecs and formats (see the codec compatibility list). We support the following output video formats:
- H.264 - H.264 video + AAC audio in MP4 file format (iPhone)
- Flash Video - VP6 (FLV) video + MP3 audio in FLV file format
- Ogg Vorbis/Theora - Theora video + Vorbis audio in Ogg file format
- Windows Media - Windows Media Video + Audio in WMV file format
- WebM - VP8 video + Vorbis audio in WebM file format
- MP3 - Audio-only output in MP3 format
We use the following options while converting the videos:
- No video upscaling. We won't enlarge your video, as this can't improve video quality, and every video player knows how to zoom the video if needed.
- Preserved aspect ratio. When video is resized, aspect (width/height) ratio is preserved. One of the dimensions (width or height) of the resulting video may be smaller than requested as a consequence of this.
- Medium quality. This is a trade-off between picture and sound quality and file size. Medium quality is a balance between the two.
- Preseved frame rate. The same frame rate as in the original video is used.
Pricing is calculated based on the video duration. Encode is a free video converter for videos up to a minute in duration. Conversion fee is $1.5 for up to 5 minutes, or $4 for up to 60 minutes of duration. We don't recommend using Encode for longer videos, because longer videos have much longer file sizes, which increases the possibility of failed upload (due to browser, proxy or network issues). However, we have no size limit, so you can convert longer videos if you want to. Each hour is billed extra $4 (so, $8 for up to 2 hours, $12 for up to 3 hours of video, etc).
Please note that HD video (1280x720 or larger) counts as double (2x) duration in the pricing, as it is more expensive for us to create and host. This means, if you upload a 5 minute HD video, the video conversion fee will be as if it's a normal 10 minute video. While we don't offer any HD video resolutions in our options, you can have the source video in HD and choose the original size as the output size.
